First Year, First Shock

First Year, First Shock2 Entries

Reality, sometimes, doesn’t kick in until that one event. You’ve lived all your life a certain way, and here you are in a new environment, ecstatic about everything, and then that moment occurs that screams: “Welcome to FUTA.”

Maybe it is the first time you realise that the freedom you spent years looking forward to comes with responsibilities nobody mentioned. Maybe it is the first time you discover that being surrounded by thousands of people does not mean finding people who think, move, or care about things the way you do.

The first year is full of these moments.

You arrive with an idea of what university will be. An idea of who you will be in it. Then, slowly or all at once, reality begins making corrections.

And somewhere between the excitement of arriving and the reality of staying, the university finally says:

Welcome. Now adjust.
